Setting Up Your Artwork
Please ensure your document is in CMYK Colour Mode.
To have the finished size of your card be 2″ x 3.5″ (Business Card Sized)
The file you send in is requested to be 2.127″ x 3.627″ (or use the templates on this page)
Please leave 0.125″ bleed all around and extend the background colour or imageto the edges.
Please do not include the guidelines shown, they do not assist in the printing process.
For great results, we request that you DON’T do this...
The colour or image stops at the trim line. What to do: Extend the colour/image past the trim line by 0.125″ on all sides. This is referred to as "bleed."
The document is too large. Placing your artwork in the middle of the page is not perferred. We’re looking for ONLY what you would like to print.
What to do:
We request you change the page size
from letter to 2.127″ x 3.627″ in the print or
document properties (if you’re printing business
card size.) Or, if your document is a different
size, check out our templates or add 0.127″
to both the length and width of the final cutting size.
The page size and trim size are the same. You won’t have any bleed (refer to above).
What to do:
Make your document 1/8th of an inch larger
all around. Extend your colour or image 1/8th
of an inch past the trim line. (Or use a template
from this page)
We Prefer PDF Files
WHY?
It’s a great way to ensure all fonts are embedded and what you see is what you get.
SAVING IN PDF
There are many different ways of saving based on what program you use to create your artwork. In Photoshop or Illustrator click "File, Save As." From InDesign, choose "File, Export."
Please set your resolution at 300 dpi or greater
For great results, please set your resolution to 300 dpi (dots per inch) or greater. Images
taken from the internet are usually 72 dpi and print blurry.
Ensure the artwork or document is set to 300 dpi prior to designing it.
Usually this can be done while setting up your document size.
A simple way to check image resolution
A simple way to check if your images have the resolution quality to obtain great results while at the press, is to zoom in on your PDF file to 400%. If your image is crisp and clear at 400%, your artwork will come off the press with great clarity.
